YÖS exam score is calculated through relative evaluation system. Relative evaluation is a statistical-based method that aims to measure a student's achievement according to the overall achievement of the group in which the student takes the exam. For this purpose, the net number of correct items of the students who take the exam is first converted into the standard T scores, which have an average of 50 and a standard deviation of 10 and then into the YÖS grade between 0-100. The following formulas are used in this calculation:

T = [(X- µ)/ σ]*10 + 50

                            30 [2(T - 50) - 10]

YÖS score      = 70 +    -------------------------

                            2 (A – 50) - 10

T = A standard score, calculated according to the mean and standard deviation of the number of correct answers of the group taking the exam and the individual student's number of correct answers.

X = Number of correct answers of the student involved in relative evaluation

µ = Arithmetic mean of the number of correct answers of the group to which the student is included in the relative evaluation

σ = Standard deviation of the number of correct answers of the group to which the student is included in the relative evaluation
